IEA recommends Michael Crawford, Ph.D., for Illinois House District 31

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Political Action Committee for Education (IPACE) voted to recommend Michael Crawford, Ph.D., for the Illinois House of Representatives District 31.

The following statement is attributable to Illinois Education Association (IEA) President and IPACE Chairman Al Llorens:

“IPACE recommends Michael Crawford for Illinois House District 31 because of his commitment to fixing the Tier 2 pension system in Illinois. Crawford has also pledged to help establish a minimum salary for all higher education adjunct professors, who are woefully underpaid and overworked. He will also work to make unemployment insurance for all our education support staff a reality. We are in the middle of a critical teacher and support staff shortage in this state, and Crawford knows in order to fix it, we must make the profession a desirable one. Because when we attract and retain high-quality employees at every level of public education, our students win.”

This recommendation was made in accordance with IPACE procedures for interviewing and recommending candidates. The process is driven by IEA members from local associations. Each year, numerous meetings are held around the state to recommend political candidates. At these meetings, local IEA members participate in the recommendation process.
