Tinley ParkThe Kirby Education Association (KEA) and the Kirby Para-Educator Association (KPEA) are recommending Carol DeMichael, Lucy Shalash, Aileen Mullee and Thomas Martelli in the upcoming Kirby School District 140 school board election.

KEA represents 331 members, including preschool through eighth grade teachers, media directors, school counselors, social workers, speech pathologists, psychologists, nurses, interventionists, instructional coaches, curriculum and technology facilitators, special education coordinators, and band directors, who serve the more than 3,400 students attending the district’s seven elementary and middle schools. KPEA represents more than 130 paraprofessionals working in District 140.

The following statement is attributable to the KEA President Melissa Peterson:

“Our committee believes these candidates represent the best choice for our students, staff and community. This group brings a strong balance of experience as board members and varying perspectives, all with a shared commitment to serving the needs of our students. Together, they possess the expertise and vision to maintain the district’s solid financial foundation, enhance communication and morale and continue advancing school safety initiatives to modern standards.

Most importantly, Carol DeMicheal, Luciana Shalash, Aileen Mullee, and Thomas Martelli share a deep passion for Kirby 140. They are dedicated to giving back to a district that has provided so much to them and their families. We are confident that their leadership will ensure a bright future for our students, our schools and our community.”

The KEA Executive Committee completed an extensive vetting process to get to know each candidate, including reviewing questionnaires and conducting interviews. To learn more about KEA’s recommended candidates, you can visit their Facebook page. School board elections are on April 1.
