Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Faculty Association votes to ratify new contract

EDWARDSVILLE, IL – The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIU-E) Faculty Association membership voted overwhelmingly to approve the tentative contract reached during negotiations.

The votes were tabulated Monday. The tentative agreement was reached on June 13. The faculty association had been bargaining with the university for more than a year.

The following is attributable to SIU-E Faculty Association President Ed Navarre, Ph.D.:

“The SIU-E Faculty Association ratified the contract with near unanimous support. While the faculty endured a lengthy bargaining process, we are looking forward to expanded access to research and travel support, better policies surrounding student engagement, tenure and promotion. The SIU-E Board of Trustees will begin the process of approving and implementing the contract in the next several weeks, and we look forward to the agreement being fully in effect by the beginning of the academic year in August.”

The SIU-E Faculty Association represents more than 400 faculty who, together with their sibling union the Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association, are responsible for the education of more than 12,000 students in the 2022-2023 academic year.
