Elk Grove teachers announce recommended candidates for District 59 school board

ELK GROVE VILLAGE – District 59 Education Association (DEA) today announced recommendations for the upcoming Elk Grove Township Community Consolidated School District 59 Board of Education election. Ahead of the April 6 municipal elections, DEA recommended four candidates for the four open seats: Daisy Espino, Joseph Sagerer, Roberto Mancilla Jr. and Mardell Schumacher.

“We have decided to publicly recommend Daisy, Joseph, Roberto and Mardell because we know that they will be good for our district, students and community. We recognize our current challenges, and we believe that these four candidates will be able to move our district forward successfully,” said DEA President Ann Wing. “DEA chose to recommend these four candidates because they will allow us to build upon and grow our successes.”

DEA sent questionnaires to all five school board candidates. The DEA recommendation process included 60 DEA members that participated in various ways. These included application review, interviews, a candidate forum, as well as a meeting of our building representatives.

“Joseph, Daisy, and Roberto are current District 59 parents. Their perspective will be instrumental in ensuring the board keeps students’ best interests in mind.” said Wing. “Mardell is a current District 59 board member who has always supported our staff and the decisions they make for our students.”

DEA represents teachers, education support professionals, counselors, psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists and nurses in District 59.
