Southwestern School District Education Support Professionals receive SCORE grant

Tasha McQuay, special ed van driver and Karen Jackson, a special ed van rider were awarded a $1,000 IEA SCORE grant this past December for the development of “sensory resource kits.” The pair work together transporting special education students to and from school. The Southwestern School District covers a large geographic area and as a result, students can spend long periods of time on the school vans. The kits include activities and objects that stimulate student’s senses helping to keep them calm and provide enrichment on long commutes. The project was co-sponsored with Junior Girl Scouts from Troop 235 who used the grant activities toward their Bronze Community Services Awards.
