SPRINGFIELD – The following statement regarding the appointment of Dr. Anthony “Tony” Sanders as the 31st State Superintendent of Education for the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is attributable to Illinois Education Association (IEA) President Kathi Griffin:
“We worked collaboratively with Dr. Carmen Ayala and we look forward to the same with Dr. Tony Sanders. We know through his work in District U-46 that Dr. Sanders has been a proponent of PreK education, creating career pathways for our young adults, a commitment to equity, paying attention to students’ emotional needs and, very importantly, ways to address our teacher shortage through a grow-your-own program and tuition incentives for Education Support Professionals. We share these goals, which are best practices for student success, and we hope he carries this work on as he transitions into his new position.”
