Broadview educators announce recommendation for mayor

BROADVIEW – The Lindop Teachers’ Association (LTA) is recommending Mayor Katrina Thompson for re-election. Mayor Thompson has demonstrated a passion for the future of our schools, students and the Lindop School District 92 community.

The LTA conducted a thorough endorsement process. Both mayoral candidates were sent a questionnaire, with a request to return the answers and a  biography. The LTA endorsement team collaborated to develop questions that aligned directly with the school’s values and community needs. While one candidate declined to meet, Mayor Thompson participated in a question-and-answer session with several LTA members, resulting in LTA’s recommendation.

The LTA spokesperson Jen Zinga released the following statement:

“The Lindop Teachers’ Association proudly endorses Mayor Katrina Thompson for re-election, recognizing her unwavering commitment to education, child advocacy and the Broadview community. Her dedication to reinvesting in our children is evident through her strong partnerships with Lindop School and its educators. Initiatives such as Broadview Freedom School, her advocacy for new sports uniforms and the renovation of school sidewalks highlight her commitment to inclusivity, equity and community-focused problem-solving.

Mayor Thompson’s efforts to promote civic engagement empower both students and staff, encouraging them to take an active role in shaping their community. She is always accessible and willing to listen, ensuring that the voices of educators, students and families are heard. Through her leadership, she has expanded resources that provide students with opportunities to explore literacy, infrastructure, research, etiquette and more. Her dedication goes beyond words. She follows through with action, ensuring our scholars have the support and experiences they need to thrive.

Her commitment to Lindop is evident in her consistent presence at school events, her investment in leadership opportunities for current students and alumni, and her efforts to make enriching experiences, such as field trips, accessible to all. She is a true advocate for youth empowerment and continues to set a powerful example of service, leadership and community engagement.

Mayor Katrina Thompson’s track record speaks for itself. She has been and continues to be a steadfast supporter of our district, educators and students. We appreciate her dedication, accessibility and willingness to listen, and we proudly stand behind her re-election.”

LTA represents the 40 teachers and other licensed staff working in Lindop School District 92. More than 300 students attend school in the district.

The mayoral election is April 1. Early voting begins March 17.
