Whether you are a new leader seeking to energize your local or a more experienced leader aiming to create the collective power necessary for meaningful change, this workshop will provide you with the skills necessary to drive real and meaningful change. Get ready to harness the power of your members, amplify your union’s impact and lay the groundwork needed to position your union as a formidable force for advocacy and change.

Session 1:  Introduction to the Four Keys to Building Strong, Resilient and Unified Locals
In this session, we will explore the foundational strategies for building a strong, resilient, and unified local. We will also examine the current strength of your local, identifying both areas of strength and opportunities for growth. This will set the stage for a focused approach to building collective power and ensuring long-term success.

Session 2:  Membership Recruitment:  Laying the Foundation for Growth
In this session we will examine effective strategies for attracting and bringing in new members to strengthen your union’s power and reach. We’ll also discuss the importance of creating a positive and welcoming environment that encourages new members to join, feel valued, and actively participate from day one.

Session 3: Membership Engagement – Building Community and Unity
In this session, we’ll explore how to foster meaningful connections and build a vibrant, engaged membership that is active and invested. We will also create a Membership Engagement Ladder, a practical tool to help you identify key steps for deepening members’ involvement and moving them from initial participation to active leadership roles within your local.

Session 4: Membership Development – Empowering Members and Cultivating Leadership
In this session, we’ll focus on strategies for developing leadership within your local and empowering members to take on active roles. We’ll also explore the importance of providing educational and mentoring opportunities to help members grow in their skills, confidence, and capacity to lead, ensuring a pipeline of strong, capable leaders for the future.

Session 5: Membership Retention – Keeping Members Involved and Committed
In this final session, we’ll explore proven methods for ensuring long-term member involvement, loyalty, and commitment to your local’s mission. We will also review the four keys discussed throughout the workshop and discuss strategies for staying connected with your members, maintaining their engagement, and ensuring ongoing commitment to the work of your local. Additionally, we will focus on creating an environment that resists negative outside influences, strengthening your local’s resilience against anti-union attacks, and fostering a sense of solidarity that keeps you members united and committed, even in challenging times.
