SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Education Association (IEA) is proud to congratulate Governor-elect JB Pritzker on his hard-fought victory tonight.
“This election, our members came out in force, voted for public education and we made a difference,” said IEA President Kathi Griffin. “Public education won tonight. We elected a new leader who will champion every student in Illinois regardless of zip code, income or the color of their skin. We look forward to working with Governor-elect Pritzker to fight for our educators and our students.”
IEA’s Board of Directors voted unanimously last spring to recommend Pritzker for governor in the General Election. IEA members across Illinois have volunteered countless hours to ensure that public education is at the forefront of this election cycle. IEA members made 25,000 phone calls in support of JB Pritzker and other IEA-recommended candidates.
“The last four years have been difficult for public education and our members,” said Griffin. “We’ve had a governor who is openly hostile to unions and who has destroyed public education. But it’s a new day in Illinois. JB is the right guy to help us get public education back on track and give our educators a seat at the table in the process.”
The IEA is committed to working with the Pritzker administration to ensure that students and public educators receive the support they need, including fully funding public education across Illinois and addressing the ongoing public pension crisis.
