ROSEMONT – A member of the education support staff in Elgin Area School District 46, has been selected by the Illinois Education Association (IEA) as the organization’s 2018 Education Support Professional (ESP) of the Year.
Tina Pizzitola, a Para-Interventionist Team member (PIT) in Elgin Area School District U-46, Pizzitola was recognized for the honor on Thursday at the annual Representative Assembly of the IEA in Rosemont, Ill.
Pizzitola, who was instrumental in the development of the Para-Interventionist Team, leads trainings at numerous state and local conferences and is a tireless advocate for quality professional development and for the contractual rights of employees.
“Tina Pizzitola is a mentor for her PIT colleagues and goes the extra mile by serving on her local’s board and bargaining team,” said IEA President Kathi Griffin.
“She is committed to making sure she and her colleagues have the best possible training and skills that will allow them to provide the best services to students.”
Some 1,200 delegates, guests and state dignitaries attended the IEA Representative Assembly at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, in Rosemont, Ill.
The 135,000 member Illinois Education Association (IEA-NEA) is the state’s largest education employee’s organization. IEA represents preK-12 teachers outside of the city of Chicago and education support staff, higher education faculty, retired education employees and students preparing to become teachers, statewide.
