Jennifer Erickson, an elementary school teacher in Batavia School District #101, has been selected by the Illinois Education Association (IEA) as its nominee for a National Education Association Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence.

Erickson was recognized for the nomination on Thursday in Rosemont at the Representative Assembly of the IEA.  Some 1,200 delegates, guests and state dignitaries attended the annual event.

“Jennifer Erickson is committed to schools and students everywhere,” said IEA President Cinda Klickna.  “She not only devotes her professional life to students in Illinois, she also has shared her talents as an educator with students and families in Laos, Mongolia, China and Mexico, teaching English to children, teenagers and adults.”

While in Asia, Erickson participated in several trainings while learning from other North American volunteer teachers.  She also was part of Operation Serve International, a not-for-profit humanitarian organization team volunteering in Valle de Chalco, Mexico.

The IEA awards committee cited Erickson as a consistent contributor to her school.  She has served on many school and district committees, developing research-based instruction for students and reaching out to involve parents and community members.

The IEA is the largest organization of education employees in Illinois.
